D9 Elementary School
Description
Jennings handled the site concrete package for D9 Elementary School, a new school project off River Road on Johns Island. The scope extended across the school site and included concrete for the new roundabout on River Road.
The work took place over approximately eight months as different areas of the site became ready for concrete.
Challenges and Unique Features
Multiple mobilizations were required as construction progressed across the site. Jennings coordinated with the project team around access, other trades and the sequence of work so concrete could be placed as each area became ready.
The roundabout required the most field adjustment because existing roadway grades did not match the original design model closely enough for curb placement to proceed as modeled. Jennings reviewed the conditions with the project team and was authorized to adjust the curb-machine grades in the field.
Crews verified elevations as the work advanced so the new curb could tie into the existing roadway while maintaining the drainage required by the project.
Project Results
The field adjustments allowed the roundabout curb to tie into the existing roadway without reworking completed curb. Jennings also finished its concrete scope within the planned eight-month window despite the multiple mobilizations required across the site.
